Austin City Limits Music Festival Pictures!
The first ever Austin City Limits Music Festival was held in Austin this year in Zilker Park. The two-day, five-stage event drew a diverse crowd of over 40,000 music lovers from all over the place. We think there were a lot of Canadian folks down for the show, as all of the directions were in French and English (Spanish was conspicuously absent - the fest folks should add that next year - this IS Texas, after all!). But, the crowd was definately mostly local!
Both days were HOT HOT HOT (and did I mention HOT?) under the Texas sun - temperatures in the 90's. But, we learned from the first day, brought our hats the second day, drank lots of water (among other things) and had ourselves such a great time!
Every musical performance we saw was outstanding, and we really only saw a fraction of the bands that played. Especially awesome musically was the band "Nickel Creek." They appear to be a family ensemble (Dad on upright bass, daughter on vocals/violin, older son on Mandolin and vocals, and younger son on rhythm guitar). This was obviously BY FAR the biggest crowd they'd ever played to, and they were totally overwhelmed by the sheer number of people as well as the reception their music was getting. Far from falling apart at such a welcome, they seemed to draw from the crowd's energy and just get better and better with each song. They must have played 3 encores, and the crowd would have liked a 4th. Their music was a high energy mix of blue grass, meets grunge, meets Enya meets Primus. The band was TIGHT! Highly recommend them.
We also caught fabulous performances by Wilco, G Love and Special Sauce, Ryan Adams, and the String Cheese Incident, plus bits and pieces of a half dozen other shows.
Sondra and I are definately planning to make this festival a yearly tradition if at all possible!

Here I am looking all sexy in my tube top! (BTW - jeans were a very bad idea. I don't care how cute they are - I should have worn something cooler!)

And here I am looking how I usually look in a tube top - just plain silly!

Me and Sondra ready to head out to Zilker. Kearson was so patient with us at Sondra's - waiting while we primped, applied stick on body jewelry, and made little leather string belts with bells on them to wear around so we'd be all jingly! We tried to get him to wear one too, but no dice! He had very little desire to be jingly. Go figure!

No sooner did we arrive then Sondra was taking off her clothes! Just kidding. It was SO hot, and she was wearing a beautiful, but heavy and non-breathable silk scarf, so we immediately went shopping for something cooler! She ended up getting a really cute bright green cotton top that was much more comfortable! I really like this picture because it caught Sondra's real smile. Hooray!

Sondra's friend Caesar (on the far right) lives near Zilker, and was so nice to let us park in his driveway so we didn't have to take the shuttle or hike very far. We heard reports that the shuttle was taking 2 hours because of the number of people using it, so THANK YOU CAESAR!! Her friend Jeff, is on her lap. There's that cool new green top!

Here's another, substantially more "artistic" picture of Jeff. Jeff was able to hang out with us all day the first day. He cracked me up! (He is the one who got us the projector to use at my birthday party - thanks again, Jeff!).

Super cute picture of Jeff and Sondra. The big straw hat you see Sondra in is Jeff's (note how quickly she managed to pilfer it!) and has a plastic scorpion stuffed in the hat band. How cool is that??!!
