What's new in the OH-SO-fascinating world of J9 & K? Find out below!

03.12.2008: Finally I am caught up again and here are photos of everything from Christmas to Carnaval to Kadian's first birthday and everything in between! In case you're wondering what happened to our New Year's photos, well, we didn't do A DARN THING so took none. I did manage to watch the ball drop on TV at midnight, but that was only after taking a long nap. Funny how having a baby changes your idea of a perfect New Year's Eve. We are all doing very well here. Kadian is officially walking! She took her first steps in January, but didn't really start going for it until last week. Now she wants to walk everywhere, or more accurately, she wants to RUN everywhere, but doesn't know how yet so is settling for walking. We've been spending lots of time outside in the yard and playing/working on the garden. She's learned to "sniff" and loves to smell the sweet allyssum in the strawberry pots and the mint in the barrels. I can't wait until we have some veggies for her to pick and eat - I know she'll love it. Favorite songs right now are "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes," "Baa, Baa Black Sheep" and lots of others. She loves anything with hand motions and watches very intently the first several times you sing a new song until one day she joins in. We're reading more and more books every day. She received many for her birthday and she's really diving into them. She's still signing up a storm and between that and the few "words" she uses, she manages to communicate quite well what she wants and needs. Her latest most useful sign is "diaper" indicating that she's in need of a change! She's also signing "bird" a lot due to the addition of a feeder in our back yard. We all are fascinated by the variety of winged visitors to it. Spring is here full force and we're loving every minute of it. Now, on to the plentiful pictures!

12.17.2007: MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE! More holiday photos to be posted later, but here's our holiday card.

11.19.2007: Wow - so Fall has simply flown by and we can't believe it is almost December! It has been an unusually warm fall. We have really only had a few days of cooler weather so far (it's going to get into the mid eighties again today) though it is supposed to get cold in time for Thanksgiving (thank goodness - who wants to eat green bean casserole in 80 degree weather??)! Anyhow, I wanted to get the fall's photos up since it will likely be after the holidays before I have a chance to post again. Kadian has been keeping us on our toes. She's learned to crawl, including up and down our stairs. She's also got her first teeth (2 as of today). We have so much to be thankful for - most notably our amazing, beautiful daughter, our loving extended families, fun and supportive friends, and of course each other. Here's wishing you a day filled with reminders of all that is good in your lives. Much love! J9

Oh, P.S., I've put up a new page that will be helpful for anyone holiday/birthday shopping for Kadian: KDN's Wishlist
Here's to new friends! It's official - I can crawl!! Baby's first Halloween, etc.

09.21.2007: The Austin City Limits festival was last week! I have attended ACL every year since it's inception, and always have an amazing time! This year was no exception, though it was definitely a different experience now that Kadian is part of our family. For one thing, the whole thing took a LOT more planning than in previous years. Luckily, we had several friends willing to babysit for us, but Kadian isn't yet ready to be away from me for more than 4-5 hours (OK, OK - maybe it's me who's not yet ready), so we had to coordinate getting her to/from the festival and home. This was really the first time I'd had anyone babysitting her, too, so I had to figure out what food, toys, equipment, etc to pack for that in addition what I needed to bring to keep her happy while at the festival. Quite an adventure. Naturally, having Kadian's needs to attend to made it simply impossible to see all the music that we wanted to see. In the end I just had to let go of my expectations from past years and take on the whole experience with a fresh perspective and an open mind, once I did that, we had a great time. Kadian was a trooper and really enjoyed dancing around in our arms and seeing all the people and lights. Anyhow - here are some pictures from the Festival and also some miscellaneous photos from the past few weeks.

  • 09.04.2007: So, bet you're wondering what this summer was like in Austin. Well - I DON'T KNOW! We were in Austin a total of just 8 days this year, having spent most of the month in the Northwest US vacationing and visiting family. Here are a TON of photos from our adventures. Enjoy!

  • 06.01.2007: I finally broke down and decided to use a tool to help me post pictures a little faster. I love the thought of having everything here on j9online, but (go figure) I seem to have precious little time to be hand-coding HTML these days. So, I'm using Picasa for quickie photo updates. PLEASE, if you have any problems with this new format, LET ME KNOW so I can tweak/troubleshoot as needed. This update includes the most recent pictures of KDN, plus a backlogue of other photos from here and there. Enjoy!

  • 02.09.2007: FINALLY - here's all about Kadian's birth including a couple of pictures.
Fair Warning: Kadian's birth story is documented here to share, but mostly I wrote it down for myself so I will always remember all the little details and just to GET IT ALL OUT once and for all. I have gone into great detail because it felt good and personally necessary to do so. Her birth was a little scary, and every birth involves some not-so-pretty things so please be warned that some of this may be Too Much Information for some of you.

    Carnaval 2006Carnaval 2006Carnaval 2006

I've always said there's no better excuse to travel than to meet up with family and friends in a foreign land. This was truly the trip of a lifetime and we've returned with Prosecco-tinged memories of Italy that are made all the more special for having shared them with those we love. A HUGE thanks goes out to NATE for kicking such serious butt at his sport that we were able to glimpse a tiny bit of the excitement of being one of the best in the world at something. It's not a feeling that most people ever get a taste of and Nate went out of his way to include us in the festivities and make us feel a part of it all. But more on that later as you look through the photos:
Three pages of photos from our 3 days in Venice start here.

  • 02.25.06: LOOKING FOR 2006 CARNAVAL PICTURES?? Never fear, Dana's got you covered!!
Carnaval was as exciting, challenging, inspiring and wild as ever this year. But it also fell a mere seven days before our trip to Italy to watch Nate compete in the Torino Olympic games! Not much time to get photos posted! Luckily, Dana is the Carnaval photo Gold Medalist, so I had no problem letting her photographic retrospective speak for both of us this year. So, take a trip to the land of Zuul and behold the WONDERS of Carnaval!! You won't be disappointed!

  • 09.10.05: Summertime's over and vacation has come and gone! All that remains are the pictures. Sigh. These are all from our vacation to the Pacific Northwest. We were lucky to have enough time to visit with both our families, and to go on our Annual float trip. Hope you are all well and rested, and ready for fall. FOOTBALL season just started, and I'm looking forward to cooler weather (or at least less humidity), visits from family in October, the ACL music festival, and Sundays in my PJ's. Enjoy these photos and drop me a line when you can - we'd love to hear from you!

  • 03.17.05: Torino, Italy - here we come! Kearson's cousin, Nate just won his first World Cup in Snowboard Cross. He's been kicking butt and we are so proud of him. For those of you not familiar, Snowboard Cross is akin to a steeplechase. All the competitors race at the same time down a course with different jumps and obstacles. It is very exciting to watch - especially when it's someone you know!! Anyhow, it is very likely that with this win Nate will be heading to the 2006 winter Olympics in Turin (Torino) Italy. Kearson and think this is an excellent excuse to visit Italy again. Anyone else interested in going?? Anyhow, WAY TO GO NATE!! You can read more on his win here!

  • 06.19.03: Austin City Limits Music Festival Update.
I just bought my 3-day pass to this year's 2nd annual ACL Music Festival! I am SO excited to go! Sondra, Kearson, Jeff and I had 8.5 tons of fun last year. If you are in Texas, or planning to visit around this time (September 19-21), I highly recommend that you attend! In my opinion, next to SXSW, this is the biggest and best musical event in Austin. Here's the site with all the info. What the website doesn't tell you, but I have managed to find out, is that 1-day tickets will go on sale on August 16th, for those of you who are too lame (ok, or too busy - whatever your excuse is) to go all 3 days!

  • 06.14.03: Many photo updates! I've been very busy getting a bunch of photos from this spring online. Figured I'd better get it done before I've got a bunch of summer events to post!
